Most problems private candidates hit are avoidable, but only if they are caught early. Ask us about any of these before you pay an entry fee.
English Language, the sciences, Geography and Art & Design all carry non-exam assessment. A centre has to arrange supervision, authentication and marking for it, and not every specification is open to candidates outside mainstream education. Check the specification with us before you commit to a subject.
The A-Level Science Practical Endorsement and the GCSE English Language Spoken Language Endorsement are compulsory parts of those qualifications, not optional extras. They have to be arranged separately from the written papers. Talk to us early if you are taking a science.
A passport or a photocard driving licence. Without one you need a private candidate identification form and two passport-sized photographs taken within the last twelve months, one signed on the reverse by a witness. Sort this out when you enter, not the week before.
Access arrangements — extra time, a reader, a scribe, a separate room — must be requested when you make your entry, with evidence. They cannot be granted on exam day, so tell us as early as you can.
Every centre sets its own internal deadline ahead of the board’s, because we have to collate and submit entries for everyone at once. Late entries carry higher fees from the board, and after a certain point an entry cannot be made at all — which means waiting for the next series.

Send us the subject, the board, the specification code if you have it, and which exam series you are aiming at. We will confirm whether we can take the entry and what it will cost.
We take your details, check your ID, and register any access arrangements you need. Then we submit the entry to the board on your behalf.
You receive your timetable and candidate number. On the day you sit the paper here under the same conditions as any school candidate, and results are issued to you on the national results day.
No. Plenty of our candidates have never taken a lesson with us. You are welcome to enter through us whether you studied at home, online, or somewhere else entirely.
AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR, for GCSE, AS and A-Level. If you are on a different board or a different qualification, ask — we will tell you honestly whether we can help or point you somewhere that can.
Tell us the subject and specification before you enter. Some specifications are open to private candidates and some are not, and for the ones that are, the coursework has to be supervised, authenticated and marked. It is much better to find out now than after you have paid.
